Jaén Provincial Council, which sponsors the event with regional government said in a statement that the winner received a trophy and 18,000 euros in prize money. The event was held today at the XI Congress 'Best of Gastronomy', which this year is being held for the first time at the trade fair of Alicante.
The eleven finalists (seven Spanish and four Italians) who participated in the final of this competition have had to make 10/2 servings of their recipes in a maximum of two hours.
In this seventh edition, to prepare their dishes these restorers were able to choose between the five extra virgin olive oils' Jaén Selección'09 ':' Cortijo La Torre ', Oil San Antonio (Jaén) Oro Bailen' by GALGON 99 (Villanueva de la Reina), 'Olivadol' Vado Olivo (Cazorla), 'Padilla 1,808' and 'Padilla Oliva-bio', of San Pablo Oil Mill (Bailen), and 'Tuccioliva', from the Cooperativa San Amador (Martos ).
The Vice President of Tourism, Local Development, Sustainability and Culture, Pilar Parra, presented the trophy winning chef 'Jaén, inner paradise' (made by artist Antonio Jaen Blanca) at a gala in which participated also the provincial delegate of Agriculture and Fishing, Roque Lara, and has attended a number of public and professionals attending this conference.
This year's jury - chaired by journalist RNE, Pepa Fernandez, and composed of the critical national and international gastronomic experts Eleonora Cotzela, Joachim Wissler, Paolo Lapriore, Yoshsaky Takazawa, Jonathan Armengol, Bob Nieto Prieto and Cristino Txarly Alvarez - primarily valued winning recipe the prominent presence of extra virgin olive oil from Jaen, since the five oils used Bastard 'Selección'09 Jaén' and the way in which conjugated with the other ingredients.
SPECIAL MENTION
Also, jurors have stressed the quality and level of the final recipes, so besides the winning dish, for whose election has been necessary to perform five votes, gave a special mention to Chef José Ramón Piñeiro Urban, the Marqués de Riscal Restaurant, Elciego (Álava) for its 'Picual oil Souffle-royal and Idiazábal cheese on tomato sauce and citrus herbal touches 2010'.
In addition to holding the VII International Award Kitchen with Extra Virgin Olive Oil 'Jaén, inner paradise', the County is participating in the XI Congress 'Best of Gastronomy' with a stand where they have a significant presence oils extra virgin olive 'Jaén Selección'09', which is also being promoted in all areas and activities of this gastronomic encounter.
The eleven restaurateurs who took part in the final were selected from the 144 entries - nine more than in the last edition of this award - from seven different countries: Spain (86), Italy (38), Germany (seven) , France (six), Portugal (five), Lebanon (one) and the Netherlands.
